Frequently Asked Questions

Sizing

The most reliable way to size your finger is by making an appointment to visit the studio, or by visiting your local jewellers.

Fingers can fluctuate in size depending on the season and water retention.

Please note that while we aim to match standardised ring sizing, there may be minor variations due to the handmade nature of my rings. There will be a re-size fee for any adjustments needed after the fact. We will cover any inaccurate ring sizing on our end, but if your finger was inaccurately sized or if there have been any discrepancies during the making, a re-size fee will be incurred. A re-size is typically $50-$200 but can cost more if additional material needs to be added.

Do you take engagement commissions?

Yes! Get in touch and we’ll work together to make the perfect piece. Custom pieces typically have a minimum 12 week turnaround, please give yourself plenty of time for this process as I do not guarantee work completed by a certain date.

What is the difference between customised and full custom?

Customised pieces are based on an existing ZOEMCBRIDE design, with adjustments like your choice of metal, gemstone, or colour palette. For example, requesting a specific gradient of sapphires in a Five Stone ring, or recreating a past design using a different gemstone shape.

Full custom pieces involve more detailed amendments or specifications to existing designs, or something designed entirely from scratch. This process includes one-on-one consultation, sourcing materials, and creating something uniquely yours - always within the ZOEMCBRIDE style. Full custom pieces require a longer timeline and deeper collaboration.

What is the process for creating a customised or full custom piece?

Consultation: Discussing your ideas, preferences, and budget. I find in person meeting or online video meeting to be the most efficient way discuss this.

Design: Creating sketches or prototypes based on our discussion.

Sourcing and Pricing: Finding appropriate gemstones for your design and budget as well as putting together pricing.

Making: Creating the piece and making any adjustments necessary

Setting and Finishing: Final stages, with setting happening once the final version of the ring is made and final touch ups.

Remodelling: can you reuse heirloom gold, silver, or gemstones?

I don’t reuse client metals directly in new pieces, however, I can have them refined through my casting house and apply the recovered value as a credit toward your new ring.

Scrap value is typically a small contribution relative to the overall cost of a piece, particularly for silver, so I treat this as a simple add-on rather than a core part of the project. If you’re looking to maximise return, selling pieces as they are can sometimes be a better option.

I can work with existing gemstones on a case-by-case basis.

Remodelling is often more time intensive than creating a new piece. While gemstones can be reused and metal can be scrapped, this doesn’t necessarily reduce the overall cost. Dismantling jewellery takes time and carries some risk, and designing around existing stones is a more involved process.

Remodelling is best approached as a considered and customised way to re-treasure your materials, rather than a way to reduce cost.

Minimum pricing for remodelling projects starts from $2,500.

Send through a description and images of anything needing a repair. If repair needed is a case of general wear and tear the repair will incur a fee.

Please remember to treat your pieces with care.

Can I return a piece?

We do not accept returns for change of mind purchases. If you are unsure about a piece please get in touch to make an appointment to visit the studio or visit one of our stockists to try something on.

How to care for your jewellery

Each piece is made to be worn, but proper care is essential to respect its integrity and ensure its longevity.

Keep your jewellery away from harsh chemicals and be aware that excessive knocks can cause damage to your setting.

To clean your jewellry, soak it in warm water with a gentle soap to soften any grime. Then, gently scrub with a soft toothbrush, rinse, and enjoy! Since we use our hands for many tasks and often keep our rings on, daily grime can build up. Regular cleaning will keep your jewelry looking fresh and sparkling!

How do I find my partners ring size!?

Rings are a real niggle to surprise someone with due to sizing... If you are eyeing up a piece, or have ever subtly hinted that you may want a piece made by us you can always email us in with your ring size!

This way we can store your ring size and should we need it, we will have it on file! If you would like to give us any other insight into what ring you would like, fell free to add that into the email!

Can I wear my ring every day?

Yes, your ring is made to be worn and loved. But like all jewellery, it needs proper care to stay strong. Daily wear, exposure to water, chemicals, or impact can affect its condition over time.

What if something goes wrong with my ring?

Rings can change with time- stones may loosen, claws can catch, and metal may wear. If something feels off, I’m here to help. I carry out some of the repairs myself and also work with a trusted manufacturing jeweller to make sure your ring is repaired thoughtfully, without losing its original character.
